William John Mantyh of GRAFTON. Passed away March 31, 2012. He was 90 years old. William was born December 23, 1921 in West Allis and was one of five children of Iola and John Mantyh. After graduation from West Allis High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and served in the 31st Weather Squadron during WW II. He served in the Asian/Pacific Theater as a meteorologist/navigator on a B-25 Mitchell. He subsequently attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan where he received a Doctor of Law Degree. He was a member of the varsity tennis team. He initially practiced law with Wood, Warner, Tyrell, and Bruce (presently Quarles and Brady). He was a founding member of Honeck, Mantyh, and Arndt. He was chairman of the Wisconsin State Bar Association Foundation, Chairman of the Milwaukee Bar Association, member of the Board of Governors of the Wisconsin State Bar Association, and Chairman of the Milwaukee District of the State Bar disciplinary board. He was active in numerous civic organizations, including president of the Milwaukee Metropolitan YMCA, Boy Scout Master, and chairman of the Milwaukee Boy Scout Council and the Milwaukee Hearing Society.He was an active outdoorsman, avid tennis player, biker, cross county skier, woodworker and adventure traveler. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Bruce), and his four sons, Steven (wife Vicki), Patrick (wife Ingrid), John (wife Francine), and Christopher (wife Cynthia), eleven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday April 3, 10 AM at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church North, 1375 Covered Bridge Rd. Cedarburg. Visitation will be at the church on Tues. from 9 – 9:45 AM. In lieu of flowers or gifts any donations should be made to the Rails to Trails Conservancy. railstotrails.org
