Vera E. Fulton Belgium resident, Vera Elizabeth Corlett Fulton, age 82, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Columbia St. Marys Hospital in Mequon. Vera was born September 7, 1926, in Kansas City, MO to the late James and the late Dorothy Celia Moren Corlett. She graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and then worked in Washington D.C. as a secretary at the end of World War II. Vera was selected to be the very first GI Sweetheart. She married R.C. Fulton in 1946 in Kansas City, MO. Vera and R.C. moved to La Jolla, CA where two of their daughters, Kathryn Diane and Linda Elizabeth, were born. They returned to Missouri in 1950, and moved to Olathe, KS in 1951, where their other two daughters, Corlett Ann and Marilyn June were born. Vera was a long time member of Unity Church on the Plaza in Kansas City, MO., where she was a teacher in childrens Sunday school and a secretary. After R.C.s death, she joined Grace Methodist Church in Olathe where she had many friends and was involved in bible study. Vera was very active in gardening. She also was president of the Olathe Garden Club and worked on flower shows for the Old Settlers. In 1960s, Vera was a secretary for Olathe Public School until her retirement in 1980. In 2004, she moved to Belgium, WI with her daughter Marilyn. Vera was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg, WI, and was a member of Tabitha Circle, a ladies group. Vera is survived by her children Kathryn (Corky) Dodson, Corlett (David) Deckard and Marilyn (Don) Payne; grandchildren Travis (Chrissy) Dodson, Tony Kingsley, Jared (Heather) Kingsley, and Phillip Payne; great-grandchildren Christopher, Peyton, Gracelyn, Dillan, Darian and Lena Grace. Preceded in death by her husband R.C. in 2000 and daughter Linda Elizabeth in 1963. Further survived by other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
