Stephen “Steve” E. Stockwell, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family as he wished, on February 18, 2024 at the age of 84 following a brief illness he faced valiantly. Steve was born in Chicago, IL on June 21, 1939. On June 30, 1962, Steve was united in marriage to Karron (Nee Zawitaj). Together they were blessed with four children.
Steve was a successful entrepreneur as President of Stockwell Associates, Ltd. and served in the United States Marine Corps 1st Division 1956-1959, proudly achieving the rank of Sergeant. Steve is a founder of the North Shore Detachment of the Marine Corps League, loyally serving Veterans and their families. Steve founded the St. Joe’s Judo Club (1971) providing the opportunity for hundreds of students to practice the art of judo, dedicated to the sport for more than 50 years and reaching the rank of Rokudan (6th Degree Black Belt). A passionate member of Saint Joe’s parish since 1969, Steve was involved in numerous pursuits. He was a member of parish council, an Eucharistic minister, and a men’s club member. Steve was a man of many interests including hunting and Harleys.
Steve is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61-years, Karron; children: Lora Brewster (John), Stephen Stockwell (Maria Clemensen), and Jim Stockwell (Tracy); sister Patti Pusateri and brother James Prohaska; grandchildren: Jake, Ella, Sagar, Cameron, Joe, Narayan, and Rose. Steve is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends regarded as extended family. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and James (Prohaska) and son Patrick. The family wishes to especially thank caregiver Madie, who lovingly cared for Steve and family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 – 12:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 1619 Washington Street Grafton, WI with military honors to follow. Family will receive family and friends on Saturday from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
