On December 21, 2023, Shirley Ann Kinsey, 89, of Burlington, WI, passed away peacefully at Hamilton House in Cedarburg, WI. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Shirley was born on December 11, 1934 in Hoopeston, IL to Raymond and Nottie (Burton) Gossett. She graduated in 1952 from John Greer High School in Hoopeston.

Shirley married Clifford J. Kinsey on February 20,1954. They spent 66 loving years together. Cliff passed in 2019. They are survived by 4 children: Kathy (Terry) Murphy, Karen (James) Jackson, Cevin (Melissa) Kinsey, and Jerry (Gina) Kinsey. She is also survived by one brother, Michael (Marcia) Gossett, a sister Linda Mulcahy, and sister-in-law Orlena Gossett.

Her grandchildren are Kelley (Dan) Sinclair, Kyle (Kira) Jacobson, Ryan (Caitlin) Jacobson, Shane Murphy, Clifford Kinsey, Samantha Kinsey, Jonah Kinsey, Norah Kinsey, Amelia Kinsey, Caleb Kinsey, and Micah Kinsey.

Her great grandchildren are Kinsey Sinclair, Tennyson Sinclair, Leo Jacobson, Alex Jacobson, Molly Jacobson, Max Jacobson, Ellie Van Rossum, and Callahan Kinsey. Shirley is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by: her husband, Clifford J. Kinsey; her parents, Raymond and Nottie Gossett; her brothers, Donald Gossett, Wayne Gossett, Stanley Gossett, and Randy Gossett; and her sisters, Ruby Watson, Janis Nelson, and Jewell Wise.

Shirley was an active member of the Burlington United Methodist Church. She was involved in several committees at the church, enjoying them all. Shirley was also a member of the Burlington Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was involved in the Personal Care Program and their Hospital Gift Shop. At home Shirley enjoyed reading, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She loved her many travels with Cliff and socializing with family and friends.

Most of all, Shirley loved her family. There were multiple gatherings at the Kinsey home throughout the year celebrating holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and other various milestones.

Shirley lived a life of love, grace, compassion, and service to God, her community, and her family. Shirley will be dearly missed by those who loved her, but will live in our hearts forever.

Shirley’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Aurora Hospice Care Team and to the Hamilton House Senior Living Community in Cedarburg. The amazing kindness and compassionate care Shirley received was a Godsend to her family.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30 from 2-3pm at the Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation from 3-4pm also at the Mueller Funeral Home.

All are invited after the service to an informal gathering at Cedars III Bowling Center in Cedarburg, to share stories and celebrate Shirley’s life, so well lived.

*A private burial will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery.
