Sally Ann Sennett Castle

Sally Ann Sennett Castle, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on April 25, 2024.

She was born May 13, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin to Ray F. and Helen Sennett. Following her graduation from Madison East High School in 1960, she attended Carroll College in Waukesha Wisconsin and was awarded a degree in elementary education.

Sally first met her future husband, Jim, on a train to the 1960 Rose Bowl. They reconnected several years later and were married August 3, 1968. She became a teacher in the Elmbrook school district, and in 1976 they moved their young family to Cedarburg Wisconsin.

Involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations, Sally was a member of the Cedarburg Junior Woman’s Club, Thorson Elementary PTA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Milwaukee, the Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund, the College Endowment Association, and the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin.

Sally had many interests including sports, cards, movies, investing, travel, reading, dining, and friends. She attended several Milwaukee Bucks games each year, and far too many of her children’s soccer games to count. She was a Badger football season ticket holder for many years, looking forward to going back to Madison on Saturdays in fall. She often traveled to Badger bowl games, including a memorable trip with their entire family (flying this time) to the 1994 Rose Bowl, the Badgers first since 1960. She also took many other trips within the US, and to Europe and Asia as well. She was a lifelong learner through reading, taking both the morning Milwaukee Sentinel and the afternoon Milwaukee Journal, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel after their merger. She was almost always reading a book, sometimes biographies of strong women, which she would then gift to other women in her life. Most of all, she enjoyed sharing a meal (preferably one she didn’t cook) with family and her numerous friends, usually with a cocktail beforehand, coffee and dessert afterwards, and lingering for hours. She and Jim were often some of the last to leave a party.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) H, and is survived by her sister-in-law Nancy (Castle) Taussig and her husband Peter Taussig of Lake Oswego Oregon, son James (Jay) B Castle II and his wife Amie Zemlicka and their son James H Castle III of Oakland California, daughter Julie (Castle) Payne and her husband Randy Payne and their children Liam and Fiona Payne of Skokie Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Milwaukee or the Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund.

A Celebration of Life open house is being planned for Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Shully's, (146 Green Bay Rd.), in downtown Thiensville, at the Watermark/East Lawn space on the Milwaukee River.  The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00 PM until 7:30PM.
