In Loving Memory of Sallie Margaret Saleska
Sallie Margaret Saleska, a baptized child of God, a deeply loved mother, the kindest of grandmothers, and most joyous of great-grandmothers, was born on June 20, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, to Henry Peyton Jarrard and Matilda neé Severin. Sallie passed gently into Jesus’s arms on September 22, 2023, where, with her beloved husband John, she waits eagerly for the resurrection of the dead.
Sallie’s life was a testament to the enduring hope that was in her. Her faith in Christ sustained and comforted her throughout her earthly journey, and her strength of mind and spirit inspired her children and all those around her.
Sallie was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her brothers Jim and Jack Jarrard, her sister Joan, her four children Tim, Tom, Tammy, and Thad, 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Sallie loved and was loved by every member of her family and that love will remain etched in their hearts.
Sallie graduated from Valparaiso University in 1952 with a major in business and a minor in Spanish. But she invested her passion, her heart, her intelligence, and her energy into raising her four children. She dedicated her life to instilling in them some of the most precious of values: faith, compassion for others, generosity, kindness, and patience. Sallie was a beautiful example of what it means to live a Christ-centered life. Her love overflowed her children onto her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one of whom delighted and amused her. Our memories of her way of living, and the rich practical advice she gave us will continue to guide and inspire us.
Sallie was active in her church where, especially in her later years, she found solace and community. She loved to read the Scriptures and talk theology. It was in these moments that her curiosity shone bright. Up until our Lord took her, Sallie loved to learn new things and she was always interested in the world around her.
In her free time, Sallie enjoyed reading, walking, watching old movies, drinking Starbucks coffee, spending time with her family, and cooking. She was a “classy dresser” and she loved to go shopping and out to eat and enjoyed a glass or two of red wine as long as it was not too expensive, in which case she settled for the cheaper white.
We are so thankful for Sallie’s life and enduring love. One of Sallie’s favorite Bible verses says, “The Lord’s kindnesses certainly never cease; certainly, his mercies never end.” For all of us who have been impacted by the blessing God gave us in Sallie, we know how true these words ring.
A service of hope and comfort for us who grieve will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10729 W. Freistadt Rd. Mequon, WI on Saturday, September 30, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00-10:45 AM.
