Robert J. Stoffel, Sr., 79, Cedarburg, died peacefully at home on December 5, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 8, 1926, in Sturgeon Bay, to Arnold and Mamie Moore Stoffel, Bob was the eldest of 6 children. After graduating from Sevastopol High School in 1944, Bob joined the United States Navy as an electronic technician’s mate. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. Bob married Beverly Bscherer on June 12, 1948 in Milwaukee. He received his B.S. in business administration from Marquette University in 1950 and his M.B.A. from Northwestern University in 1951. Bob worked in materials handling for more than 50 years, first for Rapistan Chicago, IL, Grand Rapids, MI and Cleveland, OH, and then for the Raymond Corporation Greene, NY. In 1957 he moved his family to Cedarburg, Wisconsin. At that time he became a Raymond dealer and founded Stoffel Equipment Company in Milwaukee, now run by his son, Bob, Jr. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Jaycees. He served as an instructor for religious education classes at St. Francis Borgia Church and as a volunteer for Junior Achievement. He was active in SCORE, The Business Clinic, and Oracle, where he helped others start and manage their own businesses. Golf was Bob’s favorite recreational activity. He was an active member and office holder in various Senior Golf Associations. Retirement centered around daily activities such as mass at Gesu, swimming, breakfast with friends, weekly card games and, of course, golf. Bob was also the #1 supporter at his grandchildren’s sporting, music and dance events. Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly; six children, Sally, Oak Park, IL; Cindy John Jones, Green Bay; Bob, Jr. Ginny, Milwaukee; Sheila Tom Walter, Sturgeon Bay; Christine Tony Fernandez, Atlanta; Sharon Bill Murray, Fond du Lac; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Lefty Arbter, Longview, Texas; Mary Onsager, Sturgeon Bay; Sue John Hill, Sturgeon Bay; one sister-in-law, Elaine Stoffel, Sturgeon Bay; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bill and John. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St Francis Borgia North Catholic Church 1375 Covered Bridge Rd. Cedarburg. A private burial will be held at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Milwaukee. Family and friends may visit at the Mueller Funeral Home W63 N527 Hanover Ave. Cedarburg on Thursday, Dec. 8th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and also at the church on Friday Dec. 9, 9 AM until time of service at 10 AM. The family would like to sincerely thank all the nurses and nurses aides at Vitas Hospice for their wonderful care and support. As Bob would say, they were “just great”.
