Robert C. Clapper

Robert Charles Clapper, age 62, passed away on New Years Day with his family by his side, after entering the hospital on Christmas Day battling esophageal cancer. Born on August 6, 1945, in Morris, IL, he was the son of the late Robert and Eleanor (Krause) Clapper. Robert grew up in Ottawa, IL then received his BA in industrial design at the University of Kansas. Bob worked at Hallmark in KS, was a clock designer for Westclox in Ottawa, IL, a game designer for Western Publishing in Racine, WI, a bottle and product designer for Johnson Wax in Racine, a Director of Research and Development for DCI Marketing in Glendale for 9 years, VP at Milwaukee Sign in Grafton for ten years, and land developer of Country View subdivision. Robert C. Clapper and Gale C. Wiersum were joined in marriage on January 16, 1981. He was a devoted husband for 27 years. He enjoyed their farm and century-old Victorian home and was proud of the land development they created in Grafton, WI, where they lived for more than 20 years. Robert is survived by his wife, Gale, and their son, Matthew R. Clapper. He is also survived by his three daughters, Kate Clapper of Madison, Sue (Tim) Beck of Caledonia, and Carolyn (Jason) Bazan of Wauwatosa, along with grandchildren, Owen, Nora, and Elis Beck and Leif Bazan. Bob served on the Grafton Planning Commission for over 15 years and on the board of EDGE. He enjoyed working on his property, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and traveling. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 1:00 pm at Ozaukee Congregational Church, 1142 Lakefield Road, Grafton, WI. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service. Flowers will not be accepted, but donations to the Robert C. Clapper Memorial Trail in Country View would be appreciated by the family.
