Robert Louis Melan was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on July, 3, 1935. He grew up in Rockford, Illinois with his parents, Mae and Emil, and his brothers, Larry and Roger who have all gone before him. Bob graduated from Marquette University and earned his Civil Engineering degree. He worked for the State Highway Commission, Highway Pavers, and Donohue & Associates. He was briefly self-employed and was the Grounds & Maintenance man for Eastbrook Church. He also earned his Professional Engineers license, and was the Project Engineer for the Zoo Interchange, the Harbor Bridge and several bridges and sewer treatment plants in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. In 1959 he married Susan (Suzi) Hathaway and they had six children: Michael (Cathy), Ann (Michael) Erickson, Timothy, Daniel, Cynthia (Tom) Lally and Katherine (John) Neumann. Their grandchildren are MacKenzie, Noah, Savannah, Bridget, Christian, Adam, Jessica, Kelsie, Brienna, Ella, and Grace. Their great-grandchildren are twins Scotland and Cashton. Bob loved the Lord, his family, his friends, Eastbrook Church, working, and Lebanese food. Eighteen years ago he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and went through radiation which put him into remission until April of 2011 when the cancer had spread to his spine. After surgery he was paralyzed and bedridden for the last 3 1/2 years. He went to Glory on January 28, 2015. Memorial Service Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Eastbrook Church, 5385 N. Green bay Road, Milwaukee at 12:30pm with Visitation at the church on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Eastbrook Church appreciated.
