A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 19, 2011, at 2PM at Community United Methodist Church, Cedarburg, for Robert A. “Bob” Klug, of Cedarburg, who died on August 16, 2011, at the age of 97 years. A gathering will be held at the church immediately following the service. Rev. David Blackmer will officiate. Bob was born in Milwaukee on April 19, 1914, to Richard H. and Magdalena (nee Hermann) Klug. He graduated from Milwaukee North High School in 1931. As a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, Bob served his country during World War II from 1941 through 1945. He was stationed in England, North Africa, and Italy. Bob was employed in 1931 by the Milwaukee Gas Light Co., which later became Wisconsin Gas and is now WE Energies. He started as a messenger boy and rose to several positions in sales and management, retiring in 1976. A Cedarburg resident since 1954, Bob was an active volunteer and lay minister at Community United Methodist Church. Bob served as the City of Cedarburg Director of Emergency Services and held positions on the Cedarburg Park Board. An Eagle Scout, Bob volunteered for Troop 3 Cedarburg Boy Scouts. Along with his wife Evelyn, he was a founding member of the Cedarburg Cultural Center. He was a guide at the Cedarburg Visitors Center and a member of the League of Women Voters. Bob was a volunteer with Ozaukee COPE well into his 90s and served as a volunteer driver for the Red Cross. For their service, Bob and Ev were named the Ozaukee County Volunteers of the Year for 2003. Bob actively participated in the Friday Morning Breakfast Club for many years. An avid walker, he also enjoyed aviation, sheepshead, and pistol shooting. Bob and Ev took part in over 40 Elderhostels after they retired. Adventurous travelers, their destinations included East Africa, Europe, New Zealand, Fiji, and all fifty states. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Evelyn (nee Berg) Klug, a resident of Lasata Care Center; sons William (Meredith) Klug of Vancouver, British Columbia and Richard (Kate Stearns) Klug of Wellesley, MA; grandsons Nate Klug of New Haven, CT and Sam Klug of New York, NY; other relatives and many friends. Heartfelt thanks to Elaine and Tom Halladay for their care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Community United Methodist Church are appreciated. Visitation: There is no visitation prior to the service, however a gathering will be held at Community United Methodist Church immediately following the service.
