Richard “Dick” Wymore, 78, passed away peacefully Dec. 25, 2023 at Elizabeth Residence in Bayside, WI, of complications of Lewy-Body Dementia.
He was born July 6, 1945, in Ladysmith, WI, to Glenn and Jeanette Wymore. He and his siblings grew up on a dairy farm in Glen Flora, WI, and Dick and his brothers also helped their father run a well-digging business as well as logging in winters. Dick was a talented baseball and basketball player through high school. He graduated from Flambeau High School in 1963.
Dick moved to Milwaukee a couple years after high school to work. In 1966, he was drafted in the Army, and he ended up serving at the Kitzingen Army Base in Germany for two years. After his honorable discharge, Dick moved back to Milwaukee and began working for Inland-Ryerson Steel.
On July 18, 1970, Dick married the love of his life, Kay Ewings, of Bloomer, WI. He became a father to his sons, Jason and Marshall, of whom he was most proud. In 2007, Dick became a grandfather, and he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.
Dick was a metal fabricator by profession, and he started his own business, Wymore Company, in the late 1970’s. He ran this company, full- or part-time, until he was in his early 70s. Dick took pride in his work, and many of the items he crafted— truck bumpers, trailers, mailboxes, parts washers, and more— are still in use today.
An avid outdoorsman, Dick’s passions were hunting and fishing. He loved bird hunting and deer hunting, and would fish for trout on Main Creek near his childhood home. Throughout the years he made many trips out west, hunting for elk, mule deer, caribou, moose, and antelope. The highlight of Dick’s hunting life was a safari to Zimbabwe with Kay for their 25th anniversary.
Dick is survived by his sons, Jason (Jenny) of Cedarburg, WI, and Marshall of Wyandotte, MI, and his grandsons, Elliot and Henry. He is further survived by five brothers and sisters: Frank (Norma) of Minneapolis; Alden (Judy) of Brooklyn Park, MN; Thomas (Sue) of Glen Flora, WI; Mary (Ron) Roub of Hugo, MN; and Beth (Dennis) Holman of White Bear Lake, MN. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Rita Wymore of Coon Rapids, MN and Shelby Helin of Bloomer, WI, and brother-in-law Thomas (Jackie) Ewings of Bloomer. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his oldest brother, William, and brother-in-law David Helin
