PHYLLIS DORWARD Phyllis Joy Dorward was born March 19, 1928 in Manitowoc to Reuben & Ione Madenwald. She entered Eternal Life on October 21, 2016 at age 88. Phyllis was salutatorian of her Manitowoc Lincoln High School class and attended Lawrence University before graduating from the National College of Education in Evanston, IL. She taught kindergarten in California and Whitefish Bay (Cumberland Elementary) before becoming a stay-at-home Mom to Jeff and Susie. She also taught Sunday school for many years at Fox Point Lutheran Church. She was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood in both Wisconsin and North Carolina. Phyllis was wife and partner of Chuck for 57 years. They lived in Whitefish Bay and Mequon for 35 years before retiring to Seven Lakes, NC in 1991. While there they traveled locally and overseas, enjoyed playing golf, enjoyed many social gatherings with great friends, and thoroughly appreciated 22 years of “Carolina Blue” skies. Moving back to the Milwaukee area in late 2012, Chuck and Phyllis lived at Alexian Village until Chuck’s passing in February, 2013. Phyllis subsequently moved to Lasata Crossings and finally, Harrison Home in Cedarburg where she received especially compassionate care from Tammy, Tanisha, Shelley, Mary and others, who lovingly nicknamed her “Hollywood” for her desire to always dress and look her best! Phyllis joins husband, Chuck, and daughter Susan Kay in Eternal Life. She is survived and will be dearly missed by beloved son Jeff (Tina) of Cedarburg; grandsons Jack and Peter Dorward to whom she was a proud “Grams”; sister-in-law to Buzz (Anne) Dorward of Mason, OH and Patricia Dorward of Cincinnati, OH. Phyllis was a special Aunt to Debbie Dorward, Robb Dorward, Patsy (Kurt) Uhl, and Beth Dorward all of Ohio, as well as Maripat Price, Nancy Ortner, Suzy & Judi Dorward, Cindy Gebbie, Bill Dorward & Michelle Jones. The reunion in Heaven with her Savior, father, mother, husband and daughter had to be JOYOUS! Her faith is summarized in a favorite German proverb: “Those who live in the Lord never see each other for the last time.” A Celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held on Tuesday, November 1 at 4pm at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg with visitation from 2:30pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Jack & Peter Dorward College Fund at Cornerstone Bank. The family also wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers of Horizon Hospice for their compassionate care of Phyllis these last few months.
