Palmer H. Gierach

Palmer H. Gierach was taken to be with his Savior April 22, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Palmer was born August 7, 1922 at this farm in Mequon, the son of Edwin and Ida (nee Schmidt) Gierach. On July 30, 1955 he was married to Edna Mueller at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lakefield. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Erna Jeske and brothers-in-law Herbert Bellin, Oscar Bellin and Tony Jeske. Palmer is survived by his wife Edna, two sisters Melita Bellin and Alice (Louis) Scheunemann. Palmer loved his family. He and Edna were blessed with sons Richard (Gloria) of Richfield and Robert (Amy) of Mequon. Fourteen grandchildren surrounded him with Love; Joshua (Kayla), Luke, Isaiah (Shannon), Hannah (Brock) Wojtalewitcz, Paul, Grace, Noelle, Laura (Brian) Prahl, Keith, Rachel, Kevin, Caleb, Timothy and Rebecca. Grandpa taught them all to play sheepshead! His five great-grandchildren are Elaina and Jason Gierach and Clayton, Wylder and Cruz Wojtalewitcz. Palmer enjoyed being a farmer on Rolling Meadow Farms in Mequon. After an education at his home congregation, Trinity Lutheran in Freistadt, he completed the Agricultural Short Course in Madison. Besides taking care of dairy cows and crops, he had a passion for selling the best yellow sweet corn at the West Bend Farmer’s Market. He served as a member of the Ozaukee County Dairy Promotion Committee and was a member of Farm Bureau. Palmer stayed active on the farm until before his 91st birthday. Faith and church were very important to Palmer. He served on Trinity’s Trustee and Elder Boards. He loved to sing in the Trinity Male Choir and with Sanger band, singing with them for over 50 years. He was the secretary/treasurer of the male choir for a time as well as president of the senior’s group. He will be missed by many people. Visitation will be at Trinity Freistadt Lutheran Church in Mequon on Friday, April 25, 2014 from 10am to the time of service at 1:30pm. Memorials to the church appreciated.
