Norman Sievert Shelvik

April 22, 1961 - March 3, 2025

Norman Sievert Shelvik was called home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 3, 2025. He passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife, daughter, and granddaughter.

Norman was born April 22, 1961 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Bertrum Sievert and Marjorie Elise (Lillegard) Shelvik, as the youngest of five children. He was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Lebanon Lutheran and attended Wisconsin Lutheran High School. As a child, Norm was very interested in electronics. While in high school, the ceiling in his bedroom was covered with index cards containing labeled transistors, and he even built himself a synthesizer and keyboard. Norm graduated from high school in 1979.

Norm continued his education at DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, and he graduated in 1982. He later went on to work at Rockwell Automation for over thirty years. He was a software development team leader, and his knowledge of “redundancies” was a treasure to younger workers. Norm was well traveled, and his work even took him to Europe a few times. He retired as a Senior Software Project Engineer with several patents.

Norm met Jane Louise Spieker, the love of his life, in June of 1981 at his sister Karen’s wedding. It was love at first sight! They were affectionately known as “the couple that was slow dancing in the parking lot,” and were married in Willmar, Minnesota on November 27, 1982. Soon after, Norm and Jane were blessed with four children: Alyssa Joanne (1985), Ryan Jacob (1988), Naomi Bethany (1994), and Stephanie Danielle (1997). Norm loved his family deeply, and they had many happy times.

Anyone who met Norm could never forget his infectious passion for his hobbies: hiking, playing and creating songs on the piano, talking up a storm, playing computer games, making bonfires, driving his convertible, grilling a great steak, and, of course, drinking the famous blue margaritas. Norm always made people feel welcome, no matter their age or background, and he was always open-hearted and generous with everyone he met.

Norman is survived by his wife, Jane, his children, Alyssa (Riccardo Scalone), Ryan (Christie), and Stephanie (Christopher Sibila); his siblings Ruth (Rob Plesner), Dave (Lynette), (Kenneth Engdahl), and Steve (Debbie); his granddaughter Sylvie, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Karen, and his daughter Naomi.

He will receive a Christian funeral at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Port Washington, WI on Saturday, March 8, 2025 – 12:30 PM. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Matthews Lutheran Church or charity of your choice are appreciated.
