Neil Lee Dobberpuhl
November 16, 1945 - October 7, 2024
Neil Lee Dobberpuhl, 78, of Cedarburg passed away at home on the morning of October 7, 2024. He was born in Cedarburg on November 16, 1945, the oldest son of Harold and Anita (nee Lindner) Dobberpuhl.
Neil grew up on his family’s dairy farm and spent his childhood working on the farm. He was active in 4-H, raising Jersey cattle and taking them to the county and state fairs. The family farm was a continuous presence in his life, with Neil and his brothers converting it to a beef farm upon their father’s death in 1970.
He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1963 and started as a mechanic at Sommer’s Automotive shortly thereafter. He was a fixture there for the next 41 years as a mechanic and service writer, retiring in 2004. Neil loved talking to people from all walks of life and could talk to ANYONE - by the time he retired, he seemed to know everyone in Ozaukee County.
He married Joyce (nee Klumb) on September 12, 1970. They were married for 54 years, much of it spent riding together on a Harley. Neil was a member of the Milwaukee Civic Riders and active in his local Harley Owners Group (HOG) chapter - a hobby that led to many parade appearances, trips to beautiful places across America and, most importantly, lifelong friendships.
Neil was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, where he also served on the church council for many years.
Neil is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, their children Becky (Rob) Frederick of Verona, WI, and Bevan (Anne Conry) Dobberpuhl of Shorewood, WI; grandchildren Juliette and Bennett Dobberpuhl; sister-in-law Julie Dobberpuhl; brother-in-law Ray (Fran) Klumb; and many cherished extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Alan and Blaine.
Neil will be remembered for his entertaining stories, his penchant for jokes, for being a great friend, and (per his grandkids) for both his backrubs and his secret candy stash.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, 2:00 PM at the Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory (979 N. Green Bay Rd.), in Grafton. Interment will take place at Zur Ruhe Cemetery, immediately following the service. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, from 11:00 AM until 1:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Neil’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, or the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation.
