Muriel M. Going (nee Stein) of Cedarburg, age 92 passed away peacefully on April 1, 2020, due to complications of the Covid-19 virus. GOD, FAITH, FAMILY. She was an active member of First Immanuel most of her lifetime. Muriel directed both the Ladies Choir & Bell Choir there. In addition, she participated in the Senior/Mixed Choirs at First Immanuel, as well as Trinity Freistadt. She sang in the Lutheran Acappella Choir for at least 15 years. Muriel was born January 11, 1928, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late Frederick H. Stein and the late Birdie Timpel. She married THE LOVE of her life, the late Norbert Going, on June 9, 1951, at St. John’s, Glendale, WI. (They met at Concordia Teachers College, in River Forest, IL.) Norbert received “a call” to First Immanuel in Cedarburg. While he was a teacher there, Muriel taught grade school at St. Paul’s Grafton, and later Trinity Freistadt. From that period on, Muriel was a nurses aid at multiple nursing homes. During this period, she obtained a Medical Technician License. God blessed Muriel with a remarkably beautiful and unique 1st Soprano voice. She sang for her H.S. graduation. Besides praising her Lord in church choirs, Muriel served people with her angelic voice at many weddings & funerals. Her “girls” meant EVERYTHING to her. She loved watching all their sporting events in high school, even into their adult years. Because of her grandsons, Muriel enjoyed in addition to baseball, softball & volleyball, hockey and track events. She loved her games with “Norby”; Scrabble, Yahtzee & Boggle. Once her girls were old enough, she taught them sheepshead and canasta. Those card games were played right up to 2 weeks before she passed. Muriel was also an avid Bucks, Brewers and Green Bay Packer fan. She was a most loving wife, mom, grand and great-grandmother. She was a devoted Christian woman, who modeled Christianity for her daughters. “…And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.…”. Her most defining characteristic: She was a wonderful listener. Muriel is survived by her children: Becky (Richard) Behrens of Cedarburg, Cindy (Pete) Petric of CO, Teresa (Devin) Hafemeister of Cedarburg, Caralee (Jerry) Jacque of Fredonia and Melissa (Kurt) Gierach of Mequon; grandchildren: Shane (Lindsay) DeFendi of Sussex, Chris DeFendi (fiancee' Taylor) of Cedarburg, Shawn (Alisa) Rogers of MN, Jason Nenning (Carrie) of Fredonia, Brandon Thelen (fiancee' Mariah) of Port Washington and Austin Thelen of Cedarburg, Taylor Hafemeister of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren: Caiden, Rylen, Kyler & Jayce DeFendi, Steven Michael, Kenneth, Jacob & Madyline Nenning, Joe & Sam Rogers, and Nolan Thelen, other relatives and friends. Muriel is reunited now in Heaven with Norb and her recently deceased daughter, Lisa Marie Schlough. Due to the Covid-19 virus, a private interment at Zur Ruhe Cemetery for immediate family only. Memorial Service at a future date is pending. Pastor Randolph Raasch of First Immanuel and the Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory are serving the family.
