Monika L. Seefeld

On December 24, 2024, Monika Lynn Seefeld (nee Nergaard), stretched her arms out to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as she took her final breath, with her loved ones beside her, after a year-long battle with cancer. Her strength, supportive family and friends, and, most of all, her steadfast faith and hope in Jesus, carried her through her challenging cancer journey.

Monika was born on November 17, 1969 in Berwyn, IL to her loving and devoted parents, Dale Nergaard and Brigitte Grassmann. In the mid-1970s, her family moved to WI, where Monika graduated from Marinette High School, making countless dear friends who continued to stay in touch with her through the years. Monika attended UW-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Area Technical College, where she got her degree as a Dental Hygienist – “the best ever,” according to her beloved boss, Dr. Cynthia Jarzembinski, and the many patients she served! In 2000, she married Bradley Seefeld and together they raised three amazing children. Later in life, Monika met Scott Brooks, who fulfilled his promise to stay by her side and support her in beautiful, sacrificial ways through every one of life’s ups and downs they faced the past two years. He also had a special way of making her laugh, even on her hardest days!

Monika will always be fondly remembered! Monika’s courage, stamina, resilience, perseverance, tenacity, and her faith in God, shaped her life and inspired those around her. It was these qualities and characteristics that made her the best daughter, mom, sister, niece, auntie, cousin, sister-in-law, girlfriend, and friend anyone could ever ask for! Monika was also an amazing long-distance runner – running 7-13 miles most days - even up until 3 weeks before she took her last breath! Monika’s love for God and family shined brightly through her – and she was quick to remind us that even though our love for each other as a family ran deep, it was GOD who loved us most!

Monika will be greatly cherished and missed by her three children who she loved beyond words, Lauren (Seth DeMara), Luke, and Tyler; her parents, Dale Nergaard and Brigitte Grassmann; her sister, Kristine Klitzke (Bradley); nieces, Leah Doupe (Russell) and Kalen Fellman (Willem); her Uncle/Aunt/Cousin, Keith, Sharon, and Troy Nergaard(Annie); cousins, Kim Walker (Dave) and Scott Nergaard (Annie); former husband and father of her children, Bradley Seefeld; brother/sister in law, Scott and Jennifer Seefeld; nephews Bryan Seefeld (Mary Grace) and Ben Seefeld (Emily); as well as her much-loved “husband-in-training,” Scott Brooks, along with countless friends, co-workers, running partners, and patients.

While some may question God’s decision in taking Monika from us at this time, we, her family, want everyone to know that we do not believe her life was “cut short.” But rather, we wholeheartedly believe that her purpose on this side of Heaven was completed in full, according to Psalm 136:16, “Your eyes saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was written in Your book before even one of them came to be.” We hope that Monika’s faith - that she held fast to her heart to the end - will take hold in your heart as well!

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Monika’s home church, Alliance Bible Church, 13939 N Cedarburg Rd., Mequon, WI. SERVICE TIMES TO BE DETERMINED.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Monika’s church family for their visits, encouragement, counsel, and prayers provided during the past year, and especially in the past weeks. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance for Monika can be directed toward Alliance Bible Church – Women’s Ministry, a ministry that impacted Monika’s heart and life in eternal ways. “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have remained faithful.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
