Mequon, Wisconsin
Merna Merrill McEuen, 85, of Mequon, Wisconsin, passed away on January 15, 2025. Born on April 27, 1939, in Richmond, California, she was the daughter of Jean and Forest McEuen and was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Rodger.
Merna was a woman of extraordinary intellect, kindness, and passion for making the world a better place. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in Hanford and later earned a degree from UC Davis. At college, she was deeply involved in campus life, taking lead roles in three plays, serving as chairman for Cal Aggie Picnic Day, and being an active member of the Pyratanean Society.
Throughout her life, Merna remained committed to causes close to her heart, particularly environmental conservation and women’s rights. She was a dedicated member of The National Audubon Society, The Sierra Club Foundation, and The League of Women Voters, where her tireless advocacy inspired and made an impact in her community.
In her later years, Merna’s garden became a testament to her love of nature, with beautiful flowers blooming year after year. She was a devoted reader, often immersed in a good book, and enjoyed the daily challenge of the New York Times word games. Merna also took great pleasure in puzzles, whether solving intricate crosswords or assembling jigsaw puzzles, which kept her mind sharp and entertained. Her family fondly remembers her famous cookies, a treat she lovingly baked and shared with those she cherished.
Merna is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Huettl (Matthew), her son, Daniel Jarvis (Laura), and her grandchildren Abigail, Christian, Sierra, Carsten, and Brady. She is also survived by her ex-husband and lifelong friend, David Jarvis.
A celebration of Merna’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to The National Audubon Society, The Sierra Club, or The League of Women Voters.
Merna’s legacy of intelligence, compassion, and activism, as well as her love for family and nature, will continue to inspire all who knew her.
