Mary V. Simonsen

Mary Vivian Simonsen died peacefully at her home , in Grafton, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the age of 90 years. Mary was born on March 31, 1926, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, the daughter of the late Salem and the late Ivy Lundberg. She relocated to the Milwaukee area as a young woman and worked as a telephone operator. She also worked for the Grafton hotel for 25 years, which is where she met her husband, Alvin Simonsen. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1957. Later in her life, Mary went on to work for the Port hotel until she retired. Mary volunteered her time as a co-leader for Brownies and spent many summers camping with her children and grandchildren. She was an extraordinary cook and baker, as well as gardener and crocheter. However, flowers were her passion. Mary helped many people with planting flowers in their yards, by using snippings from her own yard. She was an enthusiastic tourist who traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Europe, and one of her favorite places, Aruba. Mary is survived by her children, Robert Correll, David (Ann) Simonsen, Karen (Nate) Haessly, and Lisa (Tom) DeByle, and sister, Betsy (Roy) Nystrom. She is further survived by 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, who passed away in 1977, and her two brothers, Jim Lundberg and Bob Lundberg. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2016, 3PM at the Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, in Grafton. The Rev. Brent Halverson will conduct the services. The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service, from 1PM – 3PM.
