Mary H. Schopfer (nee Hilsee) passed away at home quietly in her sleep on December 14, 2016 at the age of 92 just two weeks shy of her birthday on New Year’s Eve. A memorial service will take place at Mueller Funeral Home on December 26th with visitation from 2:00-3:00pm and the service at 3:00pm. For online condolences, please visit www.muellerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cedarburg Senior Center (W63 N645 Washington Ave, Cedarburg WI, 53012) are appreciated. Mary was born to Samuel and Anna Hilsee on December 31, 1923 in Scranton, PA. The family then moved to New Jersey where she met and married George F. Schopfer, the love of her life, and the adventure began. They had four children, George, Jr., Ann, Tracey and Justine. There were many moves over the years including Brazil and England plus, Massachusetts, New York, Texas, Washington and Oklahoma. After George’s death in 1972, Mary moved back to New Jersey and went into nursing at the age of 52. She had a very successful career which she continued after a move back to Tulsa, ultimately retiring at the age of 74. She moved to Cedarburg in 2000 to live with Justine and her family. Mary was a world traveler. She was always ready to go somewhere. She had been all over Europe, plus Morocco, Turkey, Egypt, and the far east. One of her favorite trips in her later years was a trip to Greece with her eldest granddaughter, Alison Bickel (nee Riggs). Mary also loved to play bridge and thoroughly enjoyed all the people at the Cedarburg Senior Center. Mary was the loving matriarch of the Schopfer family and made sure the connections stayed strong through her children’s marriages, loving and appreciating all son-in-laws , David Driscoll (Ann), Ray Riggs (Tracey), Bill Heinrichs (Justine) and her daughter-in-law, Merrie (nee West). She cherished her 6 grandchildren, their wonderful spouses and joyous 7 great-grandchildren. Love of family and friends were the guiding principle of Mary’s life. Her greatest desire was that all be happy and satisfied. We are all greatly saddened at Mary’s passing but so happy that she is now reunited with her husband, George and parents plus the great many that went before.
