Mary Hazelden Schmitt. Febuary 9, 1931 - November 13, 2016. Mary Hazelden Schmitt passed away peacefully early in the morning on November 13th. Mary lived for most of her life in New York, growing up in Waterville NY, then residing in Yonkers with her first husband, Paul Meyer, and Cooperstown NY, before moving to Wisconsin in 2006. She spent the last 10 years of her life at the Laurel Oaks assisted living facility in Glendale, WI. She spent many years volunteering for the Humane Society in Cooperstown and cared deeply about the well-being of animals. She was generous, kind, and loved by many. Mary is survived by her four children: Lisa Meyer (Jeffrey Hughes) of Shelburne VT, Gretchen Meyer (Raymond F. Gates III) of Cedarburg WI, Peter Meyer (Bonnie Meyer) of Tacoma WA, and Kristen Stroud (George Stroud) of Mt. Shasta, CA. She had seven grandchildren (Sam and Julia Hughes; Sonya, Naomi, and Monica Meyer; and Weston and Owen Stroud). She is further survived by her brother David Hazelden of Waterville NY. She was preceded in death by her second husband Joseph Schmitt and her brother Edward (Ted) Hazelden. A remembrance gathering will be held in the Florida Room at the Laurel Oaks Assisted Living Facility (1700 West Bender Rd, Glendale WI) from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on Tuesday November 15th. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to your local animal shelter or animal welfare organization. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Laurel Oaks for the compassionate support that they provided to Mary over many years.
