Mary Alice Wolfe (nee Mueller) of Grafton joined Jesus in Heaven on November 24, 2023, at the age of 92. Mary’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with family and praising God. Born May 17, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late Robert and Frances Mueller, she was the sixth born of eight children. Mary met the love of her life, Gary H. Wolfe at The Third Order of St. Francis. They were united in marriage 72 years ago on July 31, 1951, at St. Augustine’s Church, in Bayview, WI.
Mary’s legacy will live on through her loving family. She is survived by her husband, Gary, 11 children, Frances (Aaron) Wolfe-Bertling, James (Linda), Patrick (Patricia), Kathleen (Steven) Pusker, Christopher (JoAnna), Gerard (Janet), Michael (Barbara), Timothy (Peter), Richard (Margaret), Brian (Angela) and Joseph (Yvonne). She is further survived by 47 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, her sister Rose (Francis) Vasquez, brother-in-law Thomas (Cindy) Wolfe, sisters-in-law Bonnie (the late Michael) Wolfe and Camille (Carl) Mueller, nieces, nephews, other relatives and so many cherished friends.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, grandchildren Catherine Pusker and Nathaniel Wolfe, sister Grace Ehr, brothers Richard, Rev. Robert Mueller, James, Thomas, and Carl and daughter-in-law, Laurie Wolfe.
With a joyful heart, Mary had a way of including everyone. She loved to continue family traditions of tea parties, St. Patrick’s Day balloon parties, Thanksgiving bingo and ringing in the New Year with noise makers. Amazingly, she consistently sent birthday and anniversary cards with a personalized message to each and every family member, and would entertain family members with songs, including the “Cuppycake” song, a grandchild favorite. Until recently, Mary would find a way to attend every celebration she was invited to and always offer to bring something to share. With so many family members and beloved friends, Mary’s favorite person was the one she was with.
Besides being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Mary lived her life for the Lord. Everyone who met her felt special. Mary let her love of Jesus guide her throughout life, faithfully trusting in God. She was Christ’s love in action, God’s light to all she met. Mary provided hope for the hopeless. She fed the hungry and thirsty not only with food, but also provided spiritual food through her leadership in Women's Aglow, bible studies, prayer and praise groups and a variety of church renewal programs. She collected and lovingly distributed clothing for the House of Peace. When she visited the prisons and nursing homes, Mary brought Communion and encouragement. She welcomed strangers not only into her life, but often into her home, gently inviting them to know Jesus. Many still call her “Mom”.
Mary’s favorite bible verse, Philippians 4:4-7, was an encouragement to her and she would often share it with others.
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at St. Francis Borgia North Catholic Church, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg. Visitation will take place from 10am until 11:45am. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery, Mequon.
In memory of Mary’s faith and love of God, her family kindly requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to Pro-Life Wisconsin or St. Francis Borgia Youth Ministry.
