Martha M. Schanen (Nee Dickmann), 97, a resident of Milan Estates in Saukville, was born into Eternal Life on November 16, 2017. On September 10, 1920 Martha became the second child of Nicholas & Catherine (Nee Scheer) Dickmann. She spent all but the last 3 ½ months of her life as a Grafton resident. On July 27, 1939 Martha married Alphonse N. Schanen and they began building the house they built entirely on their own and lived in for 65 years. While Alphonse served as an army medic in the European theater during WWII, Martha also supported the war effort here at home making parts for machine guns at Sohns Mfg Co. in Grafton. After the War, she helped form the Rose-Harms Unit 355 American Legion Auxiliary. She was the last surviving charter member. Martha was an accomplished cook, baker and seamstress. Even in her final months she enjoyed sharing her recipes with her Milan Estates Family and occasionally making clothing repairs for them. She enjoyed a long healthy blessed life and loved to volunteer at Family Sharing and various church ministries. Martha is survived by her three children: Nicholas (Vicki) Schanen of Grafton, David (Debbie) Schanen of Talking Rock, GA and Nancy Schlegel (friend Dan) of Cedar Grove; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Alphonse; her parents Nicholas & Catherine Dickmann; sisters: Lucille Zukaitis, Lorraine Paulin, Ardelle Van Langen, Mildred Brown; and her brother Nic Dickmann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 – 12 Noon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grafton with Fr. Michael Barrett officiating. A Rose-Harms Unit 355 American Legion Auxiliary service will be at 11:45 AM. Family will receive friends at the church on Wed. from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph's Catholic Church appreciated. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.muellerfuneralhome.com Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory of Grafton assisting the family.
