Grafton resident, Luella Wellenstein entered eternal life on April 30, 2014 at the age of 100 years. Luella was born February 8, 1914, the daughter of George and Rose (nee Prom) Stern. She grew up in the town of Saukville on the family farm. Luella graduated from Port Washington High School in 1932 and received her teaching degree from Milwaukee State Teachers College. She taught in one-room schools in Ozaukee County for several years and worked with children in grades one through eight. On July 13, 1946 Luella married Leo Wellenstein of Lake Church. The couple lived in the town of Saukville until they moved to Grafton in 1952. She worked as a homemaker while raising three children with her husband. Luella cherished the time she spent with Leo and her family. She shared her love and words of encouragement with each of her children – Frank, Rosalee and Mary in all their endeavors. This loving praise continued with her son-in-law Greg, grandchildren Nicole (Bill), Brandon, Sharon (Adam), Laura (Chris) and great-grandchildren, Summer and Peter. Luella enjoyed weekly coffee hour with neighborhood friends, was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, liked to sew, knit and read, canned vegetables from her garden and always looked forward to planting flowerbeds around the house each year. Luella is survived by her children Frank, Rosalee and Mary (Greg) Hantak, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, sister, Elinor Volesky and brothers Henry and Lawrence Stern. Luella says “thank you for all your help” to her compassionate caregivers Stacy, Karen and their co-workers at Home & Hospice Advantage and to everyone at Serenity Homes in Grafton. Luella’s family is very appreciative of all the excellent care she received. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1619 Washington Street in Grafton at 11:00am. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 9:00am to 10:45am. Interment church cemetery.
