Lillian Lucy Peters-Nimtz

Our loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Lillian Lucy Peters-Nimtz, 97, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018 in Sheboygan Falls, WI. Lillian was born July 11, 1920 in Ferndale, Arkansas, to William H. Grimmett and Emma G. Curtis Grimmett. She grew up during the Great Depression in poor surroundings, but always knew she was destined for more. Her creative talents were first displayed while singing and playing guitar on the radio and even performing with the Grand ‘Ole Opry when it toured through her hometown. In 1941 she met Ralph Peters, stationed at Camp Robinson in Little Rock, and they married May 9, 1942 and moved to West Allis, WI to live with his family. They resided in the Milwaukee area for many years, working and raising their children and then settled in Grafton in 1966. Lillian worked as a waitress and hostess at some of the high-end Milwaukee hotels and restaurants, but she is best known for her talents as a seamstress and painter where she created hundreds of beautiful wildlife and landscape scenes. Her paintings can be seen on display in various homes and businesses all over the country. Her other interests included gardening, knitting, needlepoint and taking care of her home and family. In 1987, they moved to Crivitz, WI where she opened her own art shop, but Ralph passed away in 1990 and she relocated back to Ozaukee County. She met her second husband, Donald Nimtz, in 1995 and they were married July 13, 1996 where she was the oldest recorded bride at the historic St. James Chapel in Menomonee Falls. They traveled extensively, enjoying 18 years together in Grafton and Cedarburg until Don’s passing in 2016. Since then she has lived at Lasata Crossings and Pine Haven Christian Communities. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Peters (Julie Clausen) of Prior Lake, MN and James Peters of Greenfield, WI, and one daughter, Laurie Brand (Bill) of Glen Allen, VA; a step-son, Jim (Dawn) Nimtz of Cedarburg, two step-daughters, Kit (Steve) Cairns of Madison and Eileen Nejedlo; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Kennedy, Heather Pfeiffer, Jennifer (Todd) Kyseth, Andrew (Beth) Peters, Stephanie (Kaleb) Lindsey, Katie Brand, Nicholas and Jenny Nimtz, Kurt and Bridget Nejedlo and eight great-grandchildren along with many other nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, 1619 Washington St., Grafton, WI on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 10am to Noon with a mass to follow at Noon. Following lunch there will be a brief graveside service at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg, WI.
