Leslie A. Elger, 81

Leslie Ann (Smith) Elger of Grafton died peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. She was a previous resident of Cedarburg, WI. and Whitefish Bay, WI.

Leslie was born March 22, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, and spent her childhood years in Old Greenwich, CT. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan and Choate Rosemary Hall. She also attended Tufts University and Sweet Briar College.

Leslie was a lifelong advocate for animals, being known to many in this area as a dedicated pet sitter for dogs, cats, horses, and other animals. She cared for many pets of her own, and had been a volunteer at several local Humane Societies. Leslie was an avid reader and library patron. In her younger years, she also enjoyed gardening, riding her horse, visiting art museums, and bird watching.

Leslie is survived by her three daughters: Andrea Huels of Atlanta, GA., Maria (John) Grade of Seattle, WA., and Nicole (Stuart) Maclean of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren: Jillian, Alexandra, Reid and Gage Huels and Duncan Maclean; and her sister, Marcia (Vince) Cherry, of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Kitty Pearl, who was thankfully adopted by a local family.

The family would like to thank all her friends and community at the Berkshire, as well as good friends Judy & Bill N., Judy M., and Sue S. We will host an informal memorial gathering on Jan 22, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the community room of the Berkshire apartments, 1004 Beech St, Grafton. If you knew Leslie, you are welcome to join us!

According to her wishes, Leslie’s ashes will be laid to rest with her parents at the family plot at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Riverside, CT. The Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory (W63N527 Hanover Ave.), Cedarburg, is handling the arrangements.
