A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2010 6:00 PM at St. Peters United Church of Christ, Saukville, for Leroy E. Kertscher, 98, of Saukville, who died on June 21, 2010 at Samaritan Home of West Bend. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 4 PM until time of service. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Saukville. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peters United Church of Christ appreciated. Leroy was born in Newburg, WI on March 25, 1912 the son of the late Fred and Alma (nee Bretschneider) Kertscher. Leroy was united in marriage to the late Ruth H. (nee Helm) on June 9, 1937 at St. Peters United Church of Christ. Leroy worked for Kwik Mix Co. in Port Washington for 40 years and had been retired for 34 years. Leroy was a charter member of the Kwik Mix Co. formerly known as Trak International Quarter Century Club; He was still attending their annual banquet up until 2006; on August 12, 2002 hew was honored at the annual banquet as a Fifty year veteran; member of the Grand Lodge # 1430 International Association of Machinistand Aerospace workers for 58 years; former 28 year member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Saukville; was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ since 1921 where he was also a member of the Brotherhood; member of the Volunteer Fire Department of Saukville for 26 years; Saukville Village Trustee for six years; Saukville Weed Commissioner; Played accordion and drums for a Polka Band for 46 years; grew fruit trees and grapes to make his own wine for 41 years; Raised red worms for fishing and trapped muskrats and mink along the Milwaukee River. He also enjoyed woodworking in his basement where he hand crafted 225 wood clocks. Leroy is survived by his children: Jim (Barbara) of Cedarburg, Ronald (Anne) of Saukville and Nancy (Mark) Gierach of West Bend; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law Wilmer Helm; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leroy is preceded in death by his wife Ruth; great grandson Jesse; Brother Ruben; and sisters Lorraine and Esther.
