Kathryn L. Eldredge Nee King

Kathryn Eldredge -- a true gift tomany She loved kids. Thats why Kathy decided early on that teaching was her calling. Its also why she later decided to put her teaching career on hold to take care of two kids and their father. After graduating from Wisconsin State College, Whitewater in 1952, Kathys teaching career took her to all corners of the state. She started in Beloit and soon after moved to Green Bay before settling in the Milwaukee area. She taught first grade for nearly twenty years in the Whitefish Bay school district, primarily at Lydell School. She was recognized regularly by her students, parents and colleagues as one of the finest teachers in the district. In 1971, she put her teaching career on hold for a new, lifelong assignment with another group of kids. When her sister MaryJo died in May of 1971, Kathy stepped into the role of her life. She took over as caregiver to her sisters two small boys Tripp and John to help her brother-in-law, Ed. The boys were comforted as their beloved single aunt would be there for them everyday. Eventually, the power of love pulled Kathy and Ed together and they married. Kathy and her new family moved to Cedarburg in 1973 to start their new life. Soon after the boys were settled in school, Kathy joined the Cedarburg School District as a substitute, eventually becoming a special education teacher. She served the community in special ed for ten years before retiring in 1988. Her distinguished career was recognized by the State of Wisconsin in May of 1988 with theRecognition of Service Award, presented by theState of Wisconsin Superintendent Herbert J. Grover inrecognition of 32 years of service to the educational wellbeing of our young people. These contributions are acknowledged with expression of grateful appreciation. In retirement, Kathy had a full schedule of volunteering, bridge-playing, and travel to see her family and grandkids. Her volunteer roles included weekly work at Lasata Care Center, polling place volunteer for the Town of Cedarburg, and as a religious education teacher at St. Francis Borgia. Kathy loved bridge and competed regularly in several bridge clubs with her sister Alyce Geske. Kathy kept her winnings in the famous blue purse she carried when she competed. Most of all, Kathy loved to visit with her family. She and Ed enjoyed traveling to Cincinnati to see Tripp and his wife Margaret and grandkids Ben, Linden, and Connor. Kathy also loved to visit Madison often to see John, his wife Kristin, and grandkids Noa and Maika. Her family and friends will miss her greatly. Her life was a blessing and gift to many.
