June Elizabeth Hoffmann June 24, 1924 – September 23, 2017 June was born in McGrath, MN to Bessie Grace Felske and Charles Schluter Felske on the 24th of June, in 1924. June graduated from Washington Park High School in 1942. She was fortunate to have parents who believed in education for women. She went on to graduate from Ripon College in 1946. While there, June met Garth William Hoffmann, a returning Navy veteran from WWII. They were married at Atonement Lutheran Church in Racine on December 27, 1947. After sixty-five years of marriage, Garth preceded her in death in 2013. June is survived by daughters Nan Elizabeth (Stephen) Adams and Susan Patricia (Kevin) Baumann. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rebecca Elizabeth Adams L’Heureux (Glenn), William Merrick Adams (Kaaren), Benjamin Louis Baumann (Sara), Anna Elizabeth Baumann Schwantes (Aaron), and Great-Grandchildren Eleanor Elizabeth L’Heureux, Asher Anderson Adams, Gabriel Kevin Baumann, Grace Patricia Baumann, and Simon Louis Schwantes. June is also survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Hoffmann, sister-in-law Patricia Parker, brother-in-law James Parker, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law; sister Patricia Ann Hammett; brother-in-law Frank William Hammett; and brother-in-law Bradley Bostwick Hoffmann. After arriving in Cedarburg in 1951, the family joined Advent Lutheran Church. There June was an active member in various church groups. The supportive congregation would embrace and support her for nearly seven more decades. June loved the Cedarburg community and gave her time and talents as a member of the committee that would create the first Cedarburg Community Swimming Pool in 1959, and later, served on the Cedarburg Parks Department. She was most proud of her time spent on the Cedarburg Friends of the Library Board as they planned the construction of the predecessor of our city’s current library in 1971, and also her tenure as a fifty year plus member of the Cedarburg Woman’s Club. With pride, she often reflected on the thousands of dollars of civic improvements, such as the creation of the Cedarburg Girl Scout House, decades of scholarships given to our Cedarburg High School graduates, and environmental causes, that this hard-working group of women collected, to donate toward the enrichment of our community and its people. Work for June included teaching at Union Grove High School before her marriage and substituting in the Cedarburg School District. In fact, over sixty years passed and students would contact her to share memories with her. Having a family business, Baumann-Hoffmann Hardware, involved more than Garth. It meant giving the support a small business owner needs at home, plus, June leant the business her skills by doing the billing for years. Recreation for June included being any amazing bridge player in many bridge clubs where she could have fun while socializing with life-long friends. Traveling across the United States with her husband in their RV gave the couple years of enjoyment as they collected friends and memories from coast to coast. If family was a recreation, June was recreating fulltime. There wasn’t a day that would pass when she wasn’t actively involved in family events, such as boating, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking, playing cards, or being the hub of family communication. June’s sincere, listening ear and advice was sought out by all of the three generations of her flock that respected her company; subtle ways of nurturing our independence, amazing memory and intelligence, and words of wisdom. Whether the advice was about a serious subject or deciding on just the right animal from the box of animal crackers for her grandchildren, her responses were thoughtful and given with love. Her last words of advice were “Thank God every day” and “Have sweet dreams.” A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 – 4:30 PM at Advent Lutheran Church W63 N642 Washington Ave. Cedarburg. Family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 3:30 PM- 4:15 PM. Inurnment Zur Ruhe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Advent Lutheran Church, Cedarburg Public Library or Cedarburg Women’s Club are appreciated.
