John V. Sorensen, of Grafton, WI went to his eternal home with Jesus on September 28, 2018, surrounded by his family. John was born in Stone Bank, WI on August 31, 1938, where he grew up helping his dad on the family farm and teasing his younger sisters. John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served with pride in Korea, Asia, and the United States. He married Maryalice Masuhr in 1962 after leaving the Air Force and they soon settled in Cedarburg, WI. After completing college, John utilized his love of people in various sales and purchasing jobs during his career. He cherished his daughters and his life centered on family and community. John was active in the Cedarburg Jaycees, umpired Cedarburg Little League games, and loved watching his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He faithfully served in numerous capacities at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton from 1967 until he was no longer physically able to do so. After Mary went to heaven in 2005, John again found love with his longtime friend, Marilyn Leszczynski, marrying in 2008. Together they enjoyed years of travel, fun, and companionship. A strong patriot, a highlight of his later years was his Honor Flight trip in 2016. John will always be remembered for his faith in God, fun-loving personality, and love of family and country. None of these traits ever waivered even as dementia took its toll. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, wife Mary, sister Jane Colyer and brother in law Dr. James Masuhr. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughters Sue (Dwight) Bode, Jill (Tim) Hoven, grandchildren Ryan and Erin Bode, Zach and Elise Hoven, sisters Sandy Amundson, Joann (Bob) Willie, sister-in-law Carole Masuhr, brothers-in-law Ken Colyer, Jim (Judy Treskow) Carney, stepchildren Alan (Tammy) Leszczynski, Julie (Jim) Ruhnke, Deana Mentzel, step-grandchildren Michelle (Matt) Gibbons, Nicole and David Lesczcynski, Alex and Sarah Mentzel and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
