John Proctor Burbank (aka Nur-Nur) of Cedarburg passed away on December 24th at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Carthaus) Burbank. He is survived by his loving family including daughters Anne (Steven) Tews of Mequon, Wisconsin, and Nancy Burbank of Eugene, Oregon. Dear grandfather of Jennifer (Paul) Zwief of Cedarburg, WI, Sarah (Loren) Miller of Shell Beach, CA, and Peter Tews of San Francisco, CA. Proud great grandfather of Ben and Ryan Zwief and Zoe Miller. John was a member of the1942 graduating class at Clark University in Worchester, MA. After enlisting and reaching the rank of captain, John served as an instructor bombardier in B-24 aircrafts for duration of WWII. It was while serving in the Air Corps that John met his wife, Betty, in Casper, WY. Following his discharge, John was hired at Ozaukee Insurance and Finance in Thiensville, WI, in the original Thiensville Bank Building on Green Bay Road. He owned and operated that business for 61 years until closing it in 2009. As a patriot, John loved his country and was especially loyal to his Cedarburg and Thiensville communities. John was a worldwide traveler and an avid tennis player. He was a long-time member of the Cedarburg Lions Club, Thiensville Rotary and Advent Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. He also served on the Ozaukee County Board and was a Director of the original Thiensville State Bank. John was passionate about supporting the University of Wisconsin Badger athletics as demonstrated by his red Mustang convertible and his red and white tennis gear. He also loved all animals and was particularly fond of dogs. His family is so blessed to have had him in their lives. John cherished his time with friends and family, especially in his later years. The support and encouragement of his wonderful friends and loving family meant the world to him. He was a uniquely eccentric, lovable and generous person. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Advent Lutheran Church or the Milwaukee Rescue Mission appreciated. Johns many friends are invited to celebrate and honor his life on Sunday, January 2nd at 1:00 pm at Advent Lutheran Church W63 N642 Washington Ave. in Cedarburg.
