John H. Wheiland Sr. of Grafton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Kathy’s Hospice in West Bend, WI on November 13, 2013 at the age of 80. John was born on November 22, 1932in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Nee Noon) Wheiland. John was united in marriage to the late Joan Burbach on May 15, 1954 at ST. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wauwatosa, WI. John served in the United States Army from September 1950 – July 1952. John was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as an artillery specialist. John was a member for the life of the 28th Division Heritage Association and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. John never gave up being a Philadelphian his whole life. He never stopped loving his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies. John enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets, raisin toast, his classic car model collection, fishing, watching old war documentaries and movies and the American Pickers TV show. Every morning he went to the Riverside Restaurant to meet his breakfast club. John is survived by his children: Christopher Wheiland, John Wheiland Jr., Joanne (Gary) Backhaus, James (Judy) Wheiland and Joseph (Anne) Wheiland; grandchildren: Michael Wheiland, Peter Wheiland, Heather Wheiland, Thomas Wheiland, Kymber Wheiland, Aaron (Jodi) Caprariello, Teresa (Nate) Wiesztort and Jason (Tracy) Backhaus; great grandchildren: Shanon, Josslyn and Easton; brother-in-laws: Charles (Eleanor) Burbach, Richard (Donna) Burbach and Lee (the late Margaret) Sniegowski; other relatives and many friends. John was preceded in death by a son Thomas and siblings: Jean Rossman, June Diehl and Edmund Wheiland. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 – 6:15 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Saukville. Family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 4:00 PM -6:00 PM. Interment will be held on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Saukville. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kathy’s Hospice of West Bend, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or St. Vincent DePaul appreciated.
