Janet S. Taylor, a cherished and devoted member of her community, passed away on March 14, 2025, in Grafton, Wisconsin, at the age of 90. Born on April 12, 1934, in Buffalo, New York, to her late parents, Clarence Schmidle and Grace (nee Cowen). Janet’s journey through life was filled with kindness, love, and a steadfast commitment to her faith and community.

Janet pursued her academic ambitions, ultimately earning a Master’s Degree. This educational foundation set the stage for her fulfilling career as a librarian at Marquette University. She dedicated herself to fostering a love of reading and learning, impacting the lives of countless individuals who sought knowledge and solace in the library's welcoming environment.

A woman of warm disposition, Janet was known for her kindness and ability to make others feel at ease. Her infectious smile and welcoming nature allowed her to make friends wherever she went. She was a proud member of St. George Melkite Catholic Church, which served as a significant cornerstone in her life. Additionally, she actively participated in the Milwaukee Turners, Goethe House Wisconsin, and the Heritage Colonial Dancers, finding joy and connection in these communities. She found her forever home in Grafton, Wisconsin since moving from Chicago, Illinois in 1977 and Buffalo, New York in 1975.

Janet is survived by her beloved sister, Barbara; nieces Valerie, Nancy (Daniel), Linda (Ty), and Karen (Kevin); as well as great-nieces and great-nephews Alexander, Jenna, Wren, Gates, Abigail, and Olivia. She is further survived by many friends and extended family who will deeply miss her.

Janet was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Peter Y. Taylor Sr.; her father, Clarence Schmidle; her mother, Grace (nee Cowen); and her brother-in-law, Bruce.

The legacy of Janet S. Taylor, marked by her unwavering kindness and dedication to her community, will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we remember her, we celebrate a life well-lived, one that touched many, and we honor her spirit during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held at St. George Melkite Catholic Church in Milwaukee on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM, followed by a Funeral Service starting at 5:00 PM. The church, located at 1617 W State St., Milwaukee, WI, will serve as the gathering place for those wishing to pay their respects. She will be buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Hamburg, New York. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations made to St. George Melkite Catholic Church are appreciated.
