Janet E. Skeen

Janet Esther Skeen (nee Schaus) was born on January 7, 1936, and passed away on May 8, 2024.

Janet and Richard Skeen have been inseparable from the time they met in the halls of Custer High in Milwaukee, WI. Janet was so in love with Richard she surrendered her title to Miss Alice in Dairy Land as Ambassador to Wisconsin to marry the man of her dreams. They got married on June 25, 1955. They started their life together in Milwaukee, where Janet was working as a Dental Assistant and Richard was working as a machinist, then supervisor at Allis Chalmers in West Allis, WI. Together Janet and Richard traveled the United States supervising the installation of steam turbines and generators. Their first home together was on 76th Street in Milwaukee. It was there that they welcomed their first child, Chrystal Lynn, in 1957. Soon after they had their second child Dawn Marie, in 1960. They then moved to a new home in Solar Heights on Sunnyvale in Mequon. Soon after that Richard was transferred to Houston, Texas where Janet and her family lived for one year when their kids were 3 and 5 years old. They then moved back to Mequon where they lived for 54 years. From 2016 to 2023 Janet and Richard lived in Leesburg, Florida. In Florida they were still surrounded by family, her twin brother, Jimmy (Linda) and her nephew, Chuck (Margie) and many friends. Finally, Janet moved to Harbor Club in Port Washington, where Janet lived out the rest of her life.

Janet devoted much of her time to serving in the church like teaching Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, Serving on Alter Guild and on the Wisconsin Lutheran Woman’s Missionary Board. Her favorite hobbies were antiquing and reading. However, her greatest joy was celebrating life with her family and friends, specifically Easter and Christmas.

If you want to remember Janet, think of her reading the morning newspaper, sipping her coffee while praying for all her loved ones and friends. Happy homecoming, Janet, may you rejoice in the glorious presence of your lord and savior. Your beautiful face and compassionate soul will be missed by all until we meet again in the glorious light of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Janet is survived by her devoted loving husband, Richard Lee, her two loving daughters, Chrystal Lynn Simonsen and Dawn Marie (Robert) Geis, grandchildren: Shawn C. Geis, Stephen N. (Ashley) Geis, Stephanie Geis, Ryan D. (Sarah) Simonsen and Kyle M. (Kylie) Simonsen; great-grandchildren: Evelynn Geis, Shawn James Geis, Tim Zeien, Mitchell Geis, Charles Geis and Bently Geis; She is further survived by several cousins, many nieces including Margie Schaus and nephews, other relatives and friends.
