Jane M. Turney

Jane M. Turney of Grafton passed away peacefully on Sunday February 26, 2017 at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg at the age of 48 years. Jane was born in Port Washington, WI to Ann (nee Hughes) and the late Dale Turney. Jane was a brilliant musician, and had a soprano voice that brought tears to the eyes of those who heard her. She gave a solo recital as a high school senior a very rare thing, playing piano and duo-piano repertoire with her grandmother, who also accompanied Jane’s vocal solos. Jane played clarinet in the Grafton High School band, sang in the concert choir and with the madrigal singers, and participated in musicals all four years. She played the leading role of Nellie in South Pacific. Jane loved science and excelled in it in both high school and college. Jane went to Valparaiso University in Indiana for one year, then transferred to Illinois Wesleyan, where she majored in music education. After giving her college senior recital in voice and piano, and graduating, Jane taught music in public school for a time. Jane also sang with the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, and worked as a professional usher at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Then the multiple sclerosis came on gradually, and was diagnosed over time, devastating to all who knew and loved her. Jane is survived by her mother Ann of Grafton. She is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Memorial service will be held on Friday March 3, 6 PM at Open Door Bible Church 3420 County Rd. LL Port Washington , WI. Family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 5 PM until time of service and at the reception following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials of your choice appreciated.
