Jackie was born in Door County, WI to Theodore and Evelyn (nee LaRoy) on April 16, 1937. She grew up on her parents’ dairy farm just south of Sister Bay. During those early years she helped with everything from collecting eggs, milking cows, looking after her younger siblings, and even picked cherries in the orchards. She attended Gibralter High School and it was there that she met the love of her life, Jack. Jackie played the French horn in the school band and Jack played the trumpet. After high school, she attended UW Oshkosh where she earned her teaching degree. Shortly thereafter, she took her first teaching position in Mt. Horeb, WI. In 1957, Jackie and Jack were married. They moved to Milwaukee and it was there that her son Paul was born. Jackie was a wonderful stay at home mom for the next 12 years, but her love of teaching and passion for the wellbeing of children beckoned her. She began teaching at St. Aemilian/Lakeside in Milwaukee, where she touched so many young lives with her creative and resourceful teaching methods. Jackie also earned her Masters Degree from Cardinal Stritch College during her 20 plus years in the education field. When news came that a granddaughter was on the way, she and Jack moved to Grafton, WI to enjoy every moment they could with her. Jackie left this world a better place, as her love of children and teaching enriched so many lives.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2017. She is survived by the brown-eyed son she asked the Lord for, Paul (Michele) Charney, her cherished granddaughter Amanda, and her sister Gloria (Tom) Bodenhagen.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for the gentle and vigilant care she received during her last few months, as well as the many caregivers, nurses and engagement staff at Silverado North Shore that provided both creative activities and comfort over the last four years.
