Jack E. Wegner entered eternal life on January 22, 2022, at the age of 79 years. Loving husband to Sharon Wegner, treasured father to Laura Fritz and Leah Wegner, and proud grandpa to Lucas and Brett Fritz. Jack was born on December 7, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Edward and Irene (nee Ladwig) Wegner. He and his sister, Janice (Wegner) Stevens, spent their childhood in Milwaukee. Jack lost his father to a tragic accident at the age of 12. This loss at such an early age helped shape his personality and core values. Jack learned the importance of hard work and caring for others, values he demonstrated throughout his entire life. Jack went to Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, and upon graduation enlisted in the Air Force in 1961. He was part of the weather service, and through serving, developed his passion for veteran’s organizations. He raised money and recruited volunteers for Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Services and went twice a week to volunteer at the Food Pantry. Jack had a heart of gold, and it showed in his passion for giving back to those who served our country. Jack met the love of his life in 1965 at work (Square D). Sharon was a secretary and Jack was a draftsman. They dated for only three months and got engaged…you know a good thing when you see it! They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage and were a wonderful example of Christian love and commitment. Jack had many passions. Art - Jack was a creative soul. He loved his job as an exhibit designer at KMK Industries where he worked for 34 years. After he retired, he continued his love of art and became quite talented as a watercolor artist. Country Music – He loved old country music, especially Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves. Trinity Freistadt – he loved to serve his church by providing homebound parishioners with communion, serving on church boards, creating the 5th and 6th grade tournament booklets, and assisting with the 4th of July parade. Vacationing up North in St. Germain - he loved fishing with his grandsons, drinking Hamms beer, stopping at Nueske’s and making a bakery run before everyone woke up. Cars – He loved his 2001 Camaro and was known to even “baby it” a bit. But there were two things Jack was most passionate about…His Family – he was a wonderful father and husband, a devoted family man who let his little girls dance on his feet, made his grandsons laugh with his impersonations, and loved his grand dogs. His Faith in Jesus Christ – He loved the Lord with all his heart and was a wonderful witness to his family and friends until the very end. When his doctor asked him during the last weeks of this life what was most important, he said without hesitation these three things. 1. His faith in God. 2. His family. 3. His watercolors. Jack was known for his service to others, his attention to detail (a blessing and a curse), his big smile, and the fact that he was never at a loss for words. Even though Menards will miss their best customer, we are grateful for Jack’s life, and take great comfort knowing we will see him again in heaven. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 - 1:00pm at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Freistadt. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am - 12:45 pm.
