Jack David Moertl, of Mequon, WI, age 97 years, passed away from this life peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2019. Jack was born to George and Edna Moertl on July 2, 1921. Growing up in Milwaukee, he followed in the family’s passion for bowling and was cited in the Milwaukee Journal as “The Boy Wonder” as a young boy after gaining local fame in the sport. Jack attended Marquette University, earning his law degree in 1949, after returning from service in the Army Air Force during World War II. Jack met Sarah “Sally” Fairfield Butler, and they got married on September 30, 1950. Jack began his general law practice with offices at the Brumder Building in Milwaukee. In 1966, he and John Spoden developed and built the Juneau Square Buildings on E. Wisconsin Avenue. As his law practice grew, he became the founding partner in the Moertl, Wilkins and Campbell law firm, focusing on corporate/business and tax law. In his retirement, Jack enjoyed travelling with Sally, reading, playing golf and cutting the grass. Just as his talents for bowling earned him notoriety in his youth, Jack achieved a “Hole in One” at Mee-Kwon Golf Course during his retirement. Jack and Sally were the parents of Christine of Milwaukee, WI, Marggie (Robert) Hatala of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Mary (Joseph) Mendla of Grafton, WI, Ann (Gary) Jacobs of Lewisville, TX, Fritz (Judi) of Palatine, IL, David (Lynn) of Mequon, WI, and Jane (Kirk) Anderson of Mequon, WI. He is further survived by his 15 grandchildren and very soon to be 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally in 2012, parents George David and Edna (nee Borgeson) Moertl and sister LaVerne (nee Moertl) Goad. The family wishes to thank the loving and concerned staff at Alexian Village, Milwaukee, WI, for their continual care and concern for both Sally and Jack in their final years in combination with excellent medical support from Horizon Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Alexian Village (9301 N. 76th St.) Milwaukee. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Friday, at Alexian Village from 9:30 AM until the time of service. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Horizon Hospice are appreciated.
