Jack D. Slais, of Cedarburg, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at the age of 76 years. Jack was born in Medford, Wisconsin, the son of the late Delphin Slais and the late Viola (nee Schlais) Slais. He attended school in Medford, and later graduated from Medford High School, in 1958. Jack served his country in the United States Navy from September of 1958, until he was honorably discharged, in August of 1962. Jack was employed by Continental Can for over 26 years, working as a can liner and as a mechanic. He was also employed by International Paper for over 10 years. Upon his retirement, Jack could be found spending numerous hours outside, as he had a love for nature. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching the birds, or deer hunting. He also enjoyed watching the history channel on television, or watching his beloved Green Bay Packers. Jack was united in marriage to Evelyn “Evie” (nee Bast) on May 19, 1984, at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Cedarburg. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage, and together they traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Tennessee, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas. Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn “Evie” Slais, children, Lori (Terry) Martin, Scott (Lynn) Slais, and Sheri (Joe) Sczygelski; step-children, Shelly (Brian) Coerper and Tammy Ritzman; grandchildren, Ashley Martin, Amber Martin, Katelyn Tomalak, Taylor Slais, Brianna Coerper, Cody Ritzman, and Bradley Coerper; sister, Nina (Fred) Schroeder, and sisters-in-law, Lila Bast, Judy Bast, and Marlene Mallon. Jack is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Slais, and brother, James Slais. A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, March 14, 2016, 6PM at the Mueller Funeral Home, in Cedarburg. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 3PM until 5:45PM. Memorials of your choice are appreciated.
