Ilma B. Hartwig (Formerly Behm)

Ilma B. Hartwig, formerly Behm, passed away peacefully at the Ivy Manor, in Jackson, on June 27, 2017, at the age of 96 years. Ilma was born on July 16, 1920, in Newburg, the daughter of the late Alfred Wolfgram and the late Frieda (nee Bublitz) Wolfgram. She attended Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and School, on Pleasant Valley Road, as a child, and remained a member of the church throughout her life. Ilma was united in marriage to Walter Behm, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, on October 3, 1942. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Audrey, Arlene, Don, Darold, Alice, Dave, and Dale. In 1967, Walter passed away at an early age, leaving his beloved wife to tend to their family. She was truly the matriarch of the family, and instilled many of the values that her children still carry with them today. Ilma loved spending time with her family, especially attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed going to the Jackson Senior Center, as well as playing sheepshead. Ilma met Henry Hartwig and they were later wed on December 19, 1973. Henry and Ilma blended their two families together and continued to stress the importance of God to their families over their 30 years of marriage. Henry passed away in 2003, and shortly thereafter, Ilma moved in with her daughter, Audrey. Ilma is survived by her children: Audrey Deming, Arlene (Roy) Kannenberg, Don (Chris) Behm, Darold (Julie) Behm, Alice (Bob) Boeker, Dave (Diane) Behm, and Dale (Cari) Behm; step-children, Bill (Cheryl) Hartwig and Bob (Dawn) Hartwig, step-daughter-in-law, Sherry Hartwig, and sister-in-law, Helen Wolfgram. She is further survived by 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ilma was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Behm and Henry Hartwig, step-son, Tom Hartwig, siblings: Alida Gierach, Edgar Wolfgram, Walter Wolfgram, and Norbert Wolfgram; sisters-in-law, Lillie (Edmund) Bublitz and Anita Behm, and brothers-in-law, Elmer (Ruth) Behm and Melvin (Irene) Behm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017, 11:30AM at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church (1268 Pleasant Valley Rd), West Bend with Rev. Kenneth Mellon officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Walter Behm, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. In state, on Saturday, at the church, from 9AM until 11:15AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School or Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church are appreciated. Mueller Funeral Home, of Cedarburg, is assisting the family.
