Hildegard A. Kessler, of Cedarburg, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2010, and was placed into the hands of God. Survivors include a son, Thomas (Julie) Kessler; three grandchildren: Benjamin, Molly and Samuel Kessler; and two sisters: Elsbeth Rosenthal and Ingeborg Bohnsack. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Frederick W. Kessler and son, Michael. Hildegard was born in Haiti in 1917 and lived there with her sisters until she was 18. She then moved to Germany and became a nurse during World War II. Following the war she studied art for 3 years developing skills that would bless others for her entire life. Hilde, her husband and two sons moved to Cedarburg in 1960 after spending a few years in Canada. She quickly became a volunteer in a wide range of activities including the Pioneer Village, the Garden Club of Cedarburg, Lasata and others. In each case Hilde blessed those around her with her creativity with dried flowers, pottery, quilting, sewing, and embroidering. Her gift of creating beautiful and whimsical art made from what nature provided has made many smile and laugh. Hilde taught our family grace, kindness, humor and perseverance in the face of adversity. She had a quiet demeanor but also had a fierce loyalty and love toward her family and friends. We take comfort in knowing she is finally at peace surrounded by eternal Love with our Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed. A private ceremony will be held on August 21st at Zur Ruhe cemetery in Cedarburg. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials be sent to the Ozaukee County Historical Society, PO Box 206 Cedarburg WI 53012.
