Herman G. Tetzlaff Jr.

Herman G. Tetzlaff Jr., of West Bend, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in West Bend, at the age of 87 years. Herman was born on September 6, 1930, in Grafton, the son of the late Herman Tetzlaff Sr. and the late Hedwig (nee Bittner) Tetzlaff. He was enrolled into the Grafton School system and he later graduated from Grafton High School with the class of 1948. Herman served his country in the United States Army from September of 1954, until he was honorably discharged in September of 1956. Herman was united in marriage to Doris (nee Ahlers) Tetzlaff on August 22, 1969, in Waukegan, Illinois. They then relocated to Cedarburg, where they lived happily together for 24 years, until they moved to West Bend in 1994. Herman was a member at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Cedarburg, where he served as an elder, an usher, and he was a very active member with the First Immanuel Lutheran Men’s Club. Herman was employed as a patrolman for the Ozaukee County Highway Department for over 35 years. He was a faithful and dedicated employee for the county until he retired in 1988. Upon his retirement, he and Doris enjoyed spending time camping at their trailer home in Fort Atkinson. Herman is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Tetzlaff, children, Jacki (Jon) Borst, Jeanne “Duffy” (Bob) Dernbach, and Ted (Sandy) Tetzlaff, step-children, Kathy (Jerry) Chromy, Karen (Mike) Tonn, Carmela (Willy) Rintelman, and Lisa (Jeff) Tangen, and sister, Marian Witte. He is further survived by 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 12 Step-grandchildren, and 17 step-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Louise Tetzlaff, brother-in-law, Erwin Witte, and infant step-daughters, Joan and Theresa. Herman was a man of great faith, he loved God, his family, and his country. He will be missed by all of the lives that he touched throughout his 87 years. A Celebration of Herman’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, 11AM at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, (W67 N622 Evergreen Blvd.), Cedarburg. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, at the church, from 9AM until 10:45AM. Inurment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park, in West Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Immanuel Lutheran Guardian Angels Program or to the First Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund are appreciated. The Tetzlaff family would especially like to thank the loving and caring doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend, who not only cared for Herman, but how they also treated their entire family.
