Harvey A Krueger of Cedarburg peacefully passed away on October 29th, 2014 with his wife Lorraine lovingly at his side. Harvey was born in his family’s home in Cedarburg on January 5th, 1922 to Edwin and Helen (Anschutz) Krueger. Harvey grew up in Cedarburg. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy. After basic training in Great Lakes IL he went to Orange Texas where he was assigned to a new destroyer the USS Claxton DD571 of the Little Beaver Squadron. He served in the south pacific during World War II and was involved in the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay, Battle of St. Cape George, the Bougainville campaign, the invasion of Paulus, the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa, and the battle of Leyte Gulf / Surigao Strait. The Claxton was struck in November 1944 by a Japanese Kamikaze plane and despite the damage to their ship, the crew proceeded to help the sinking USS destroyer Abner Read rescuing 187 of its crew. Harvey was honorably discharged from the Navy on December 29th, 1945. On August 30th, 1947 Harvey married Lorraine Tisch. In 1946 Harvey started his career as a butcher in Cedarburg. He and Lorraine moved to Evansville WI in 1948. In 1952 Harvey and Lorraine moved back to Cedarburg where he managed meat departments for Kohl’s Food Stores until his retirement. Harvey and Lorraine are proud parents of two sons, Mark (Terri) of Muenster TX and Scott (Sherri) of Cedarburg. They were also blessed with six Grandchildren Kelly (Ray) Miller, Tracy (Jake) Allred, Brad (Lindsey) Krueger, Jason (Katie) Krueger, Brett (Jenn) Krueger and Bryan Krueger. They were further blessed with nine great grandchildren. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister-in-laws Edwin (Edna) Krueger, Palmer (Arleen) Krueger, and sister-in-law Laverne, wife of his surviving brother Howard Krueger. Harvey was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on its first church council. He was also a member of the Cedarburg American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Cedarburg Fire Department. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church N35 W6621 Wilson Ave. Cedarburg on Monday, November 3, 2014 – 7:00 PM. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 4:00 PM – 6:45 PM. Rev. John Norquist officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Faith Lutheran Church Trust Fund are appreciated.
