Gloria L. Mittag

Gloria L. Mittag of Grafton. On January 16, 2019 at the age of 85 years, Gloria was called to her heavenly home. Gloria was born April 1, 1933 to Paul and Agnes (Anderson) Shipley, in Milwaukee. She graduated from North Division High School and worked in the offices of Square D Company, and at Paul’s Restaurant, the family business. She loved to go out dancing at the Eagles Ballroom, and at one of these dances she met the love of her life, Arthur L. Mittag. She loved to tell the story of how she looked into his blue eyes and fell in love, and when she went home that night she told her mother she met the man she wanted to marry. They were married May 1, 1954, and spent 49 years together until Art preceded her in death in 2003. Gloria and Art were owners of Art’s Sanitation Service until his retirement. They were devoted members of Grace Lutheran Church of Grafton since 1966. Gloria sang in the choir for many years, and they both dedicated many hours working with the Quilting group, and serving as leaders of the Aid Association of Lutherans Branch at the church. Gloria had a lifelong, unwavering faith, and always gave help to those in need; whether it was a hot meal, a home and a bed to sleep in, or a shoulder to cry on. Loving mother of Paul (Patti), Debra, John, Carl and Carol Mittag, and Joan (Lyman) Fischer. Proud grandmother of Crystal (Bill) Mosher, Daniel and Derek (Carrie) Knepprath, Elijah Fischer, Jason (Michelle), Joshua, Jeremy (Amanda), Jacob (Falynn), Andrew and Zachary Mittag. Beloved great-grandmother of Dylan Rowdon, Kaylee and Jackson Knepprath, Phoenix, Sawyer, Savannah, Macy, Winnie, Olive, and Jack Mittag. Survived by loving siblings Diane Makowski, and David (Lois) Shipley, sisters-in-law Marlene Persik and Patt Shipley, lifelong friend Nancy Mantey, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Paul and Agnes (Anderson) Shipley; sisters Joyce Blair and Grace Galloway, brother James Shipley, brothers-in-law Robert Blair, Donald Makowski and Thomas Persik, and dear friend Donald Mantey. Memorial Service at Grace Lutheran Church (715 6th Avenue, Grafton) Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 12:00 (Noon). Family will receive friends and family at the church from 10:00 am to 11:45 am.
