Gladys Ollie Hasbargen

Gladys Ollie Hasbargen (February 23, 1935 – May 8, 2019) The Lord in his wisdom suddenly and peacefully called home to heaven his dearly loved child, Gladys. She was born February 23, 1935 in Roseburg, Oregon to Donald and Vernie Starbuck. On February 26, 1954 Gladys was united in marriage to Donald Hasbargen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, also in Roseburg. Gladys has been a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grafton, WI for only a short time, since September 2018. She spent the remainder of her years living west of the Rockies. After growing up in Oregon, Gladys and Don pursued many adventures in both Oregon and Washington, including ranching, lumberjacking, poultry eggs, crop farming, worm farming and chicken farming. Gladys loved making quilts, clothes and crafts for family and friends. She greatly enjoyed baking and was rather famous for her sticky buns/cinnamon rolls and maple bars. She would at times bake items to raise funds for organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association. Gladys was active in the churches she attended and regularly participated in worship, Bible studies, quilting clubs and ladies’ groups. She also served as a secretary for her local Thrivent chapter. Gladys longed for and treasured time with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members. She treated those she knew with unconditional love. The love she so freely gave to her children now permeates their lives and their families and their friends. It is her enduring legacy she leaves behind. She would sacrifice her own personal wants to meet the needs of her family and friends. This love was really a reflection of the love she had for her Savior, Jesus, whom she looked forward with confidence to being with as his life, death and resurrection assured her of her eternal home in heaven. Gladys is survived by her sister Delores Driskill of Riverside, CA; her three daughters and two sons: Susan (Ty) Roland of Roseburg, Oregon; Judy (Terry) Kleman of Fort Jennings, Ohio; Linda (Tom) Hering of Grafton, Wisconsin; Mike Hasbargen of Newburg, Oregon; and Les (Laura Gattoni) Hasbargen of Morris, New York. She is further survived by many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Don and her brothers Phil, Vic and Larry. Memorial service will be held on Monday May 13, 11:00 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church 1332 Arrowhead Rd. Grafton. Family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:30 – 10:45 AM. Her family and friends are grateful for the blessing she was in their lives and for the assurance of Christian faith which draws its strength from the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. While hearts hurt with such a loss, joy remains with the certainty that Gladys has been given the crown of righteousness. John 14:1-3, 6 Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am…I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
