Gladys Edna (nee Pierson) Schimelpfenig passed on to eternal life in Christ on September 13, 2014 at the age of 102 years 10 months. Gladys moved from her home of over 60 years in Chaska, MN, and she lived with her daughter, Shirley (John) Kuerschner for five years in Cedarburg, WI. The last five months she lived at Harrison Home Cedarburg with Heartland Hospice also attending her. Gladys was born December 7, 1911 to Addie (nee Bachman) and Edward Pierson at the family farm in Laketown, Township, Carver County, Minnesota. She was baptized into Christ at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia, MN. She confirmed her faith at St. John Lutheran Church, Chaska. Graduated from Chaska High School, she was united in marriage to Elford Schimelpfenig on June 5, 1933. Gladys was a dedicated, loving, Christian daughter, wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed bowling, card club, sewing club, Ladies Aide, and was an avid baseball and sports fan. She nurtured four children, Sandra (Richard) Gjerdahl of Mankato, MN; Shirley (John) Kuerschner of Cedarburg, WI; Alan (Kimberly) Schimelpfenig of Jackson, WI; and Karen Amy (Dennis) Johnson of Kimball, MN. She was the loving grandmother to Anne, Kristin, and Ruth Gjerdahl, Michael, Kevin, Nathan, Kathryn Kuerschner, Jennifer, Jill and Heather Schimelpfenig, and Sarah and Hans Dykema. She was a Great Grandmother 29 times, and a Great, Great Grandmother 10 times. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Elford “Shim”, brothers Orville, Howard, and Orwin, sister-in-law and best friend Margaret Pierson, and grandson Michael Kuerschner. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chaska, MN at 11:00 AM Friday September 19, 2014. Visitation will be Friday September 19, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11 ;00 AM. Interment will be immediately following the service at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery Chaska, MN. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran School, Chaska, MN.
