Geraldine “Geri” Schmit, of Port Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Lawlis Family Hospice, in Mequon, at the age of 86 years.
Geri was born on September 29, 1937, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Edward Parker and the late Catherine (nee Byrne) Parker. At the age of 8 years old, her family relocated to Sheboygan Falls, WI.
Geri was united in marriage to Kenneth Schmit on October 5, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Sheboygan Falls. Shortly after they were married, Kenneth and Geri moved to Belgium, WI, where they would raise their five children, Andrew, Martin, William, Tina, and Barbara.
Geri and Kenneth enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe, exploring different cultures and experiencing new adventures. One of her favorite things was the annual family vacation up north in Shawano and Eagle River, where she enjoyed spending time on the lake. Additionally, she loved the vibrant atmosphere of Las Vegas and indulged in the excitement of gambling, as well as playing bingo locally.
Geri is survived by her children: Andrew (Kristine) Schmit, Martin (Kandy) Schmit, William (Sandy) Schmit, Tina Theis, and Barbara (Kevin) Bichler; grandchildren: Michael (Erinn) Schmit, Jenn (Chris) Goddard, Matthew (Malorie) Schmit, Benjamin Schmit, Ryan Theis, Luke (Faith) Theis, Elizabeth Theis, Elyse (Kyle) Voskuil, Abby (Jack) Hauser, and Melissa (Richard) Armbruster; great-grandchildren: Theodore, Violet, Jackson, Silas, Lincoln, Otto, Elyse, Lennon, and Parker; and sister-in-law, Marie Parker. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Geri was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Kenneth Schmit, and siblings: Margaret, Joan, Catherine, Virginia, Mary Ann, Edward, Robert, Paul, Phillip, and Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, 6:00 PM at St. John XXIII Catholic Church St. Peter of Alcantara Campus (1800 N. Wisconsin St.), Port Washington. Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Lake Church. Geri will be in state on Thursday, at the church, from 4:00 PM until 5:45PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice are appreciated.
