Gary Lee Haydock passed peacefully on May 14th, 2024 from this life into the loving arms of our Lord at home surrounded by his family and pets.
Born March 8, 1944 in Minot, North Dakota, Gary was caring and diligent in all aspects of his life, which centered on supporting family, home, and his beloved pets.
After early work at American Can and Quik-Pleez, he found his calling at the Milwaukee County Transit System as the General Garage Foreman. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and graduated from MATC.
He was a passionate reader. He counted among his literary influences Clancy, Rand, Rowling, Herbert, Michener, Herriott, and Asimov. Unsurprisingly, conversations with Gary were thoughtful, far-ranging, and always a pleasure. He loved time on his tractor, fishing on Big Cedar Lake, woodworking with antique tools, and motorcycling. In retirement, he discovered a passion for cooking and baking breads, and shared this love by gifting each grandchild a copy of The Joy of Cooking.
Gary is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan (nee Andersen). They were married August 12,1967 in Milwaukee, WI and built a loving life centered on respect, support, and partnership.
He is also survived by his children: Peter Gary (Isabel) and Jennifer Geraldine; his sisters: Mary Kay Bruns, Judy (Major) McCallum, and Jacqueline “Jackie” Dargatz; his grandchildren: Abigail Marie, Caitlin Susan (Kevin), Zoe Margaret (Chris), Emma Rosalee, Rory Patrick, and Lila Josephine; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Kathleen, grandson August Peter and many loving Aunts and Uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 – 11:00 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church 1332 Arrowhead Rd. Grafton. Interment will be at Hingham Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM – 10:45 AM.
