Garth William Hoffmann Garth, Bill, Dad, and Poppa, as his loved ones called him died peacefully with loved ones around him on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. He was born in Chippewa Falls on Mother’s Day, May 10, 1925, to William E. Hoffmann and Helen Irene Bostwick Hoffmann. He is survived by his wife June Elizabeth Felske Hoffmann and their daughters Nan Elizabeth Adams (Stephen) and Susan Patricia Baumann (Kevin). He is also survived by his grandchildren Rebecca Elizabeth Adams L’Heureux (Glenn), William Merrick Adams (Kaaren), Benjamin Louis Baumann (Sara), Anna Elizabeth Baumann Schwantes (Aaron), and Great-Grandchildren Eleanor Elizabeth L’Heureux, Gabriel Kevin Baumann, and Grace Patricia Baumann. Also, survived by his sister Patricia Parker (James), Sister-in-law Nancy Hoffmann, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; brother Bradley Bostwick Hoffmann, Sister-in-law Patricia Ann Hammett, and brother-in-law Frank William Hammett. Garth was an Eagle Scout and received the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow. He was Lt. Governor at Badger Boy’s State. Garth graduated from Wausau High School in 1943. Immediately thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the Pacific front on the LST 776 – U.S.S. Brodie. It was the only LST aircraft carrier. He participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Island of Japan. Upon return from service he attended and graduated from Ripon College. While there, he was a member of ROTC and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant. It was there that he met his future wife, June. Garth and June married at Atonement Lutheran Church in Racine on December 27, 1947. While in Ripon, he was Company Commander in the 32 Division of the National Guard. In 1951 the family moved to Cedarburg, and he began Baumann-Hoffmann Hardware with his partner Larry Baumann. He became an active member of the community. Garth was President of the Lion’s Club, served on the Board of Public Works, and was an Under Sheriff for Ozaukee County. Garth was a member of the Cedarburg Fire Department for over fifty years. He was chairman of the building committee for the construction of the current firehouse, served as the Captain of the Rescue Squad, and retired as Assistant Chief. Garth was a man of diverse interests; he constructed two cabin cruisers and a cottage, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and exploring the United States in his motor home. Garth was a member of Advent Lutheran Church for over sixty years. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 – 2:30 PM at Advent Lutheran Church, Cedarburg. Rev. Dr. Janis Kinens officiating. Family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 2:15 PM. The Cedarburg Fire Department will have their Honorary Walk Through at 2:15 PM. Private inurnment with full military honors will be held at Zur Ruhe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cedarburg Fire Department, Cedarburg Public Library or Advent Lutheran Church appreciated.
