Age 90, Born April 12, 1918. Floyd found eternal peace July 30, 2008. Beloved husband of 61 years of the late Charlotte Chapman; dear brother of the late James J. Chapman; loving father of daughter Jackie Chapman and son Greg (Cindy) Chapman; proud grandfather of Jennifer (Jeff) Rossman, Joseph (Leslie) Chapman, Lisa (Ross) Engel and Carrie (David) Guif; and great-grandfather of Kaylee and Ashley Rossman, Cole and Amber Chapman and Johnathan Guif. Further survived by nephews Peter and Mark Chapman, niece Penny Chapman, other relatives and friends. Floyd, a WWII veteran, served in the Army as a Sergeant, chief of gun section in the 276th armored field artillery battalion, where he earned a Bronze Star for meritorious service. Returning from service, Floyd and his new bride, Charlotte, moved to Milwaukee where he worked for Vilter Manufacturing for a short time. He then joined his brother, James, as a partner at Bay Shore Hardware Co. in Shorewood. The two brothers decided to move their business to Mequon in 1969. They bought and old farmstead on North Port Washington Rd., and as they sat on the front porch some 30 minutes before the next car drove past, they wondered if they had made a wise choice. North Shore True Value Hardware served the area for over 30 years. The Chapmans enjoyed helping their customers and making friends, many of them still asking son, Greg, last week, How is Floyd? Floyd had many self taught talents. Some of them included the incredible task of building his home in Fox Point and his cottage in northern Wisconsin. He could build or fix just about anything with his strong yet gentle hands. Floyd enjoyed his neighbors and friends, fishing at his cottage up north, gardening, cruises, and most of all being with his family. He was a quiet individual with an infectious smile that lives on in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the caregivers and nurses from Horizon for their compassion during Floyds time of need. Papa, we love you, and we will never forget you!
